PROFHILO

This treatment is aimed at patients who have visible signs of ageing skin. It’s usually for people aged between 40 and 60 years old. However, this does not mean Profhilo® can’t work on others. In younger patients, it will have a more of a preventive effect.

We start losing a significant amount of collagen, elastin and Hyaluronic Acid after we reach 30. At this age, we should start to consider preserving ourselves. This is the time when many people would consider their first toxin injections as the first lines start to appear. In some, the tissue quality has dropped so significantly that they may look older for their age; however, they may not be ready for dermafillers yet.

This is where Profhilo® fits beautifully.

There is no age upper limit either. In fact, in older patients, we have often seen more dramatic results. 60+ clients need to be managed carefully. For example, if there are deep folds present or the skin has lost elasticity then the combination treatments with Profhilo® may be more suitable. Consultation is very important. If the patient is looking for very subtle results, this treatment delivers. However, if they are looking for a lifting of the face, neck or any other area, then the combination with fillers, threads, surgery should be recommended.

We start losing a significant amount of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid after we reach 30, and it is at this age that we start to consider preventative treatments.

This is the time when many people would consider their first anti-wrinkle injections as the first lines start to appear. If you are feel your facial tissue quality has dropped significantly, and that you may look older for your age, but are not ready for dermafillers yet, Profhilo may be the best treatment for you.

  • Profhilo is not a filler – It is a new Hyaluronic Acid gel, one of the latest innovations to treat the skin laxity by skin bio-remodelling
  • It actually compliments all other aesthetic or cosmetic procedures by significantly improving the tissue quality
  • It has one of the highest concentration of HA on the market
  • Awarded the Aesthetics Award for Product Innovation of the Year

Profhilo diffuses within the tissue after injection and over the period of 4 weeks it stimulates 4 different types of collagen and elastin. It doesn’t need to be massaged and leaves no nodules. Due to the its high spread ability, only 5 injection points on each side of the face are needed, which means patients find the treatment much more comfortable.

How does it work?

Profhilo® is based on IBSA’s patented technology. It uses stable, hybrid cooperative complexes of Hyaluronic Acid (HA) at high and low molecular weights. This technology has allowed IBSA to present a unique concentration of Hyaluronic Acid to the market: 64mg in 2ml, injectable with a 29g TW needle. The hybrid cooperative complexes generate a dual action, owing to a slow, long-lasting release of high and low molecular weight Hyaluronic Acid.

Thanks to the unique characteristics of Profhilo®, remodelling skin laxity is possible in just two sessions by injecting into in the superficial subcutaneous layer of the skin. There’s a one month interval between each treatment. Profhilo® may be injected using all aesthetic techniques, according to the suggested injection layer:

  • Hydrating and stimulating action, related to low molecular weight (L-HA) HYDRO2.
  • Dermal scaffold action (support), related to high molecular weight (H-HA) LIFT3.

PROFHILO FAQ's

Q. What results can I expect?
A. After just a single course of Profhilo®, which involves two injectable treatments four weeks apart, clients can expect to see an intense hydration. It makes the skin glow and fine lines can disappear. You’ll notice smoother, tighter skin. Even for those clients with very wrinkled skin, an improvement in the texture is undeniable. The treatment can be repeated after six months in cases where more repair is desired.

Q. Where can Profhilo be used?
A. Profhilo is most commonly used for facial areas, but can also effectively be used for rejuvenating the neck, decollete, arms, knees and hands.

Q. How long does Profhilo® last?
A. The results from the Profhilo treatment will most often last for up to six months, but results can differ for each individual.

Q: Is it expected to have lumps where the Profhilo has been injected, and how long will they be there for?                                                                                   A: Following on from Profhilo there is the chance that localised lumps can form where each of the injection sites have been. These lumps will subside usually within 4-6 hours after the treatment but they can last up to 24 hours. Not every client gets these swellings and if you have had treatment and are concerned please do give us a call.

Q: How much downtime is there after treatments?
A: The downtime is minimal. When injected using the five-point technique on each side of the face, each insertion is immediately noticeable. However, they start diffusing very quickly and they disappear completely by next day.

After the treatment, it is recommended to avoid physical strain and sports for 24 hours. Please also avoid having further cosmetic procedures for 48 hours. It is not recommended to have sauna or steamy bath for the first few days either. It’s best to stay out of the sun if any bruising or prolonged swelling occurs.

Q: How quickly will I notice results?
A: Patients can expect increased firmness, elasticity and an overall improved quality of the skin for up to six months.

Q: Will people be able to tell I’ve had “work done”?
A: Usually, people won’t be able to tell you’ve had a treatment. But this depends on the skin condition being treated and the desired outcome. Profhilo® can significantly improve skin laxity. By increasing the tissue density some patients have seen some lifting, which can be noticeable. Most patients say they were complemented on how fresh they looked, but hardly ever asked what they had done.

Q: Will there be any side effects?
A: Hyaluronic Acid is very well tolerated by the skin. The only reported side effects are bruising and mild swelling at the injection sites. These generally disappear in a short period of time and are associated with the needle, not the product.

Q: Is the treatment safe?
A: Profhilo® was launched in February 2015 in Italy. It’s been used worldwide ever since. Over 150,000 patients have been treated so far with no adverse reactions reported. From a safety perspective, Profhilo® is highly biocompatible. That’s because it is made from ultrapure, natural Hyaluronic Acid and is stabilised without the addition of chemical cross-linking agents. This reduces the risk of adverse reactions. The product has also won numerous awards.

Q: How will I know if the side effects are normal, or something serious has happened?
A: After your treatment, the common effects are mild redness, slight swelling and possible bruising. The treatment area may feel tender to touch and all of these effects are normal, will subside in a few days, but may last up to a week. Each day everything should improve slightly and the area should look more normal and feel better.
